Top 9 Most Interesting Arizona Pronghorn Units 2020

Read Now

Arizona had a down year in 2019.

2020 might be tough again in most units. I'm looking forward to bucking the odds and finding some giants.

I'm not going to lie - there are some weird units on my list this year
🤷‍♂ so proceed with extreme caution.

Unit 17A
This unit suffers from chronically low fawn numbers. What got my attention was a massive spike in 2017. This means there should be a lot of 3 year olds given the low tag numbers.

A few Top 100 bucks have come from here, but nothing since 2014. It's an on again, off again type of unit for big bucks. This year it might be on again.

Unit 18B
After a decade of below average numbers it's finally on the radar again thanks to the 2017 spike in fawns.

It's had a few bucks break into the Top 100 and even 1 in the last 5 years.

Unit 2B
A steady fawn increase since 2009 and a small spike in 2017 has this unit on the map.

It's never had a buck break into the Top 100 so be skeptical.

Unit 2A
A monster increase in fawn production from 2014 to 2017.

Although it doesn't show up on the Top 100 list I do know of one buck that should be on it. I didn't get to measure the buck though and have no other knowledge about it. I only got to see it hanging on a wall.

Maybe there won't be any giants but there could be some decent bucks around.

Unit 19A
The fawn level is below average for 19A. But if you compare it other units it's huge.

We all know the genetics in 19A - giants used to roam every year. It's been very bad compared to it's glory days. I wouldn't apply for this unit, but it could rebound any year given how many fawns it produces.

Unit 35
This unit has seen a massive increase in numbers. Especially during the key years. Most of them have come from New Mexico translocations.

I don't know of any Top 100 bucks from this unit, but I have seen 85-87" bucks on rare occasions. Maybe this is the year?

Unit 10
After the Aubrey Valley Massacre of 2015 and the Aubrey Valley Slaughter of 2016 the unit took a nose dive head first right off the Aubrey Cliffs. It's fawn numbers are below average when rated against itself but above average when rated against the state.

Everyone knows the genetic potential in Unit 10. It's produced 20 Top 100 bucks and 4 of them in the last 5 years. When scouting last year I wasn't impressed with the quality of the 2 year olds though. It's got a tough road ahead to recover back to it's glory days. I wouldn't apply here for 2020, but I had to put it in on the list. You never know...

Unit 5B
This unit has seen a steady increase in fawn numbers since 2006. The key years of 2015, 2016, and 2017 are especially exciting for the 2020 season.

The unit has great genetics as most know. It's had 5 bucks break into the Top 100 in the last 5 years!

This is one of my top picks for 2020.

Unit 19B
Although not as steady as 5B it's been reasonable and with a massive spike in 2017.

It's produced 3 Top 100 bucks in the last 5 years. We also saw several bucks with great potential. If the 2 year olds from last year are healthy this unit could have a good shot at being on the top of the list.

This is one of my top picks for 2020.
