Things have been slow lately in the antelope world (as they usually are in the winter months) but fear not, good things are in the works here in at PGS.
Currently I'm working on a book (or some form of media product - not exactly sure what it'll be yet.) Also, it looks like we'll be guiding on a few of the Arizona auction tag hunts this year so we're due to start our scouting trips shortly - maybe as soon as two weeks from now. After we get into the field I'll be able to get some photos and video and start populating our website, Facebook fan page, and Youtube page as well as the few message board forums I visit. Get all your gear in order - this year is going to be a blast! The second Arizona antelope auction tag was supposed to have been auctioned yesterday at the AAF annual banquet, but it wasn't. The banquet was canceled and rescheduled - this was the email I received:
Evening BBQ/Auction - we have reschedule this event to be a joint Banquet with the AZ Deer Association on June 5th. Watch your mail and our website for more information soon. The second Arizona Antelope Auction Tag will be auctioned off on May 8th at the Arizona Antelope Foundation's new event "Arizona Antelope Days" being hosted at Ben Avery Shooting Range. It looks like a combination of all the events of the past rolled into one so it might be pretty cool. Best of all - it's about 5 minutes from my house! :)
I've been working on shifting our Facebook presence onto it's own page and seperating it from my personal page. I've uploading hundreds of photos and I'm working on uploading a lot of video clips as well. Also, I think this new page (and our site) will be a great resource to follow throughout the season as I'll be able to update it frequently as we complete our scouting and hunting trips (and maybe even during our scouts and hunts). So, become a fan and check us out on the new Facebook Page! This tag will be up for auction on March 20th at the Arizona Elk Society Banquet.
The Oregon Antelope Auction Tag sold for a measly $7,000 recently. For the type of buck you could probably find in Oregon I'd call that a bargain if you had the time to hunt and scout it on your own. If you wanted to hire a guide it would push the total hunt price up a bit, but, relatively speaking, it would still be a "reasonably" priced auction tag hunt.
We heard a rumor that the Utah Antelope Auction Tag sold for $40,000! I haven't seen the news posted anywhere online yet, but I'll keep my eyes peeled. If this is true then either someone already knows of a giant buck somewhere in Utah or the guy was just plain crazy. This amount will easily set the record for the Utah Auction Tag.
Here's the buck I took in Wyoming this past season. It's been officially scored for both B&C and SCI and is now tied for the B&C Wyoming State Record with a score of 91 2/8. The buck also scores 92 4/8 SCI.
Despite how the photos look, I actually had to crawl through the snow for about 45 minutes as it was melting. It was definitely a different type of hunting experience for someone who primarily hunts in AZ and NM. |
